There are no threads in bash(1) but jobs: processes you put in the background.
You can't do multithreading programming but parallel processing.

Well, it depends on what you're trying to do.

i want to run a timer program that does not depend on the cpu timer i.e when run, it runs on its own sandbox, assuming that before it finishes execution the user changes the system time.
