There is very little criteria here which makes it impossible to know what limitations you are working under. Also choroba has a point in that we tend to help people with scripts rather than just write them from scratch.

Assuming you are talking about authorized, command line access I would use a version control system like cvs (very simple) or svn/git (many features, more complex)

I'm looking for an automated administrative executable script. I am really new to this, self taught is on scripting isnt what I thought it would be. This is my project for a course I am taking but apparently I wasnt taught anything about scripting.

Besides version control, you can use cron to save a backup of your files and do a diff with the previous version. Another possibility is to always use a script to invoke your editor that would log the changes you make - this solution is possible only if you are the only person allowed to change the files.
